Site Analysis Nur Laman Bestari Eco Resort
In this project, we traveled to a resort located at Selangor, it is called Nur Laman Bestari Eco Resort. The site is a eco resort located in a rather remote forest area. The site is surrounded by trees and small hills. The usual activities visitors carried out there are jungle trekking, camping, flying fox, kayaking and more.
The site has many facilities available, cottage house, canteen, pools, multi-functional hall, stadium, paintball shooting arena and many more. The site is rather quiet when there aren't much activities going on, and the air is fresh due to plenty of trees surrounding the site, and site is relatively cool throughout the day, especially during early in the morning and sunset. There is a river running from North to South at the West side of the site, the condition of the water is rather clean and clear. The resort have their own water supply from the mountain. They obtain the water from the mountain, and do some basic treatment to the water then supply to the whole site. The is a pond located at the South of the site, which is for kayaking purposes.
The site has strong wind flow from the North, and moderate wind from the South. It is not very breezy at the center of the site due to presence of trees and buildings that block the wind path. The view in the site is good, through our observation, the view at the lake is good and view at the forest-mountain area. The odor however is abit unpleasant around the pond because the water of the pond is stagnant. Noise level is acceptable, area near the center of the site is abit noisy because most of the activities carried out there. Area near the cottages area is abit noisy as well. The site is quite shaded at the sides due to presence of tall and wide spread foliage trees and hills, at the center however, not so much shade, so it is hot during afternoon. There are utilities like hospital, mini mart, bus station and etc. not very far away from the site. Because our site is surrounded by hills at the East side, water tend to run down to the pond and flow to the river through our surface water drainage analysis of the site. The circulation of the site is okay, vehicle can access to deeper part of the site. The road condition however is poor, ill-maintained and a lot of pot holes.
Through our observation at the site during our visit, the number of visitors are relatively low during week days compared to weekend, because usually people are free during the weekend and visit here to relax. There are wildlife animals present around the site like monkeys and sometimes boar and rarely sun bear according to the officer of the resort. Insects like mosquitoes are quite common around forest area, so they are expected to be found at the site as well. The soil type of the site is sandy soil, the strata of soil is okay with adequate load bearing capacity. For flora around the site, most of the trees are tall and have wide foliage, they provide good amount of shades. From the site section Y-Y, we found that lowest part of our site is the pond located at the South of the site. After our site analysis is done, we have come up with a synthesis of our own on the site, and few improvement plans. First, the site lack of lighting in many areas, it is pretty dangerous during the night, so we proposed to have more lamp post installed throughout the site. As mentioned before, the road condition is poor, so we proposed to fix the road and proposed a pedestrian walkway since there isn't any available in the site. We also found that there are lack of dedicated parking space in the site, so we proposed to build some as well. We also proposed to have a better water treatment plant, because the drinking water that we received there is not very clear looking and shower water turns brown during heavy rain.
